The best book I have read in some years was 'Life of Pi' by Yann Martell. Any other recommendations?

I recently read Dan Brown's latest offering and feel it is my civic duty to warn people about it.

I was sent it in an email and still think it was a waste of money. Pity. Despite the poor writing I quite liked The Da Vinci Code. Then again, anything that knocks religion gets my vote.

a bit primitive isn't it, anything that 'knocks' religion?  a badly argued or a badly written book that 'knocks' religion does the atheist arguement as little good as a badly written or badly argued book in support of religion does for the religious cause. The same applies to message board posts...

Not surprisingly, I don't agree. It's not about putting forward an atheist argument. Even something badly written or poorly argued can challenge the privileged position that religion holds.

challenge yes, but help the cause? I have often tossed away a book after the first few pages when it is so badly written I just can't take anymore
