I have no idea why, but I feel slightly proud of this rejection of usual Apple Reality Distortion Field

Journalists and PR minders outnumbered buyers on Friday night as interest in Apple's iPhone miserably failed to live up to the pre-launch hype in the UK.
The iPhone went on sale at stores operated by retail titan Carphone Warehouse, exclusive operator O2, and Apple's own retail chain. The days preceding the launch had been filled with pages of coverage from posh papers and broadsheets alike. O2 announced it was employing 1,400 extra staff to cope with the short-term demand. Even Carphone's PR staff were dispatched to far corners of the land, to provide expert advice to the masses clamouring for iPhones.

But now it looks as if a tight-knit group of media and PR people got caught in a feedback loop. The "event" they imagined simply failed to take plac

Of course the Register is generally anti-Apple and we will need to wait for the final figures, but this story did make me smile.

The iPhone launch in the US was a blockbuster - people were only slightly put off by the pricetag and the single carrier. however the US is in the cellphone stone age compared to europe - so the idea that the iPhone isn't seen as such a 'wonder' is not a huge suprise.

If you've played with one it's very cool, but it's just way too big for me to want to carry around as a phone - but then I'm used to having a small phone. If I'd been in the US longer maybe I'd be used to a larger device.

the fact that you can only use one provider if you fancy an iPhone...will make it unusable in many areas of the UK

Seems like it wasn't a flop, at least according to this article.

http://tech.uk.msn.com/news/article.aspx?cp-documentid=6665911

I just got my new phone yesterday, I finally pensioned off my loved Nokia 6310i. I'm going to keep it a while though in case I don't like my new all singing all dancing phone, a SonyErikson K850. Does that clever picture swiveling thingy that the Iphone seems so proud of. I watched the gadget show last week and the I phone may look good but seemed a bit shyte really.

A very important message to everyone,

please read it carefully.

1 Egg,& 2 Mobiles

65 minutes of connection between mobiles.

We assembled something as per image:

Initiated the call between the two  mobiles and allowed 65 minutes approximately...

During the first 15 minutes nothing happened;

25 minutes later the egg started getting hot;

45 minutes later the egg is hot;

65 minutes later the egg is cooked.

Conclusion: The immediate radiation of the mobiles has the potential to modify

 the proteins of the egg. Imagine what it can do with the proteins of your brains when you do long calls.

Please try to reduce long time calls on mobile phones and pass this mail to all your friends & Family you

care for

eggs 1(why does a law clerk from the UK wish for a 'dime'??)

eggs too

I don't know, some people will believe anything their lawyer tells them...

clearly they should believe their trustworthy, honest, salt of the earth doctors instead...ACS cellphones and cancer

So now I'm going to be more concerned about the absorption of power from my bluetooth headset in case it makes me even more stupid...

I was pretty sure I saw this on Snopes too but I can't find the article. Some time ago I was sad enough to try the experiment at home (kid had heard the story and wanted to see for himself). My wife reclaimed her phone after about 90 minutes. No visible change in the egg at all.

Very expensive way to cook an egg. Might I recommend a saucepan and water

Grin

Simply adopting the logic of those who manage public sector budgets except I was only dumping free minutes.

That said, I'll have to give that water suggestion a go.
