Title: Minority, majority?
Post by: marianne on March 09, 2012, 09:32:55 am
Are we all now just members of some kind of minority defined by race, sex, sexual inclination, social status, religion etc? Is there no longer a majority? A norm? And, if this is so, is it the right way forward?

Hi Marianne,

I think we are to some extent all of the above; most  citizens share  common values however legislation from the eighties to the present in response to political lobbying and protests from various pressure groups have been divisive.  In Short Identity Politics separate us. Perhaps unity would have been better achieved with a written constitution which emphasized equality for all and the rights and responsibilities ofall citizens regardless of Race Colour or Creed sexual orientation etc.  It may also be prudent to add Social Awareness which includes a respect for ourselves and others and  our rights and responsibilities ito the Education Curriculum.

Regards,

Jane ;)
